Ensemble Improvisation with Nadine Sures

CA$150.00

On April 27th & 28th, Wonder’neath is presenting  “Ensemble Improvisation”, a two-part workshop by artist Nadine Sures @nadinesures

Nadine is a transdisciplinary artist whose practice spans performance, public art, costume design, video and sound installation, and pedagogy. She is a certified instructor of Action Theatre — a form of physical theatre improvisation that emphasizes the importance of the body in conveying meaning through movement, vocalization, and speech — a principle central to her ongoing research into the intersection of body, memory and place. Recipient of the Victor Martyn Lynch-Staunton Award (Canada Council), Nadine established herself as a performance artist in Montreal and Beirut. She has showcased her creations across Canada, Europe and the Middle East.

Open to artists of all disciplines, participants will explore the interplay of action, language, and creative process through embodied performance practices: presence within found spaces, solo moments, duets and ensemble work, in process and in performance. Spatial and bodily awareness will be the central prompts for the artistic experience and will be supported by methodologies and techniques such as instantaneous composition and Action Theatre (movement, vocalization and speech). Participants will work toward a collaborative improvisation experience and have the opportunity to put these skills to practice as part of a performance for the NSCAD Public Art Projects at Point Pleasant Park in early May.

This two-part workshop will take place on Monday, April 27 and Tuesday, April 28th from 5:30 – 9:00 pm at Wonder’neath, 2482 Maynard Street.

Minimum 7 participants, maximum of 12.
