Terms: Full-time term position starting the week of Sep 23, 2025 to Mar 28, 2026 (26 weeks), 30 hours/week @$24.50/hr) located in Kjipuktuk/Halifax, NS.

ABOUT WONDER’NEATH: 

Wonder’neath Art Society is a vibrant arts center and charitable artist-led organization based in Kjipuktuk (Halifax) that supports artistic development and community engagement through the arts. 

ABOUT the position:

The Art Programming and Outreach Intern will help animate programs and engage participants, including children, youth, seniors, newcomers, practicing artists, and community partners. The Programming and Outreach Intern will support the Artistic and Executive Director in the day-to-day operations of a charitable arts organization located within a dynamic arts facility. Within this position, the intern will help manage community arts programming; develop arts education curricula; support organizational outreach; liaise with on-site and visiting artists; and expand strategic partnerships in the arts and nonprofit sectors. The Programming and Outreach Intern should have leadership experience, art-making and facilitation skills, and an interest in the role of socially engaged arts. 

We are looking for a candidate who meets the following qualification requirements:

  • Highly creative and innovative

  • Dynamic visual art/craft skills

  • Reliable, flexible, adaptable and patient

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Social media and communication skills

  • Art facilitation experience 

  • Able to work both collaboratively and independently

This position is supported through Young Canada Works -- Career Focus Internships. An individual may be eligible for an internship if they meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (non-

       Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible);

        are legally entitled to work in Canada;

  • are between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;

  • are registered in the YCW online candidate inventory;

  • are willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment;

  • will not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) while employed with the program;

  • are unemployed or underemployed;

  • are a college or university graduate; and

  • are not receiving Employment Insurance (EI) benefits while employed with the program.

  • Note: Priority will be given to graduates that have not previously participated in YCW internship programs.

Qualifications & Responsibilities

In collaboration with Co-Artistic and Executive Directors, the Intern will:

  • Facilitate community engaged programming, including project planning, scheduling, communications, outreach, and partner liaison work.

  • Support the development of fall/winter initiatives, and work with the Directors to plan artistic programming through to the Summer 2024.

  • Research and develop project ideas for Wonder’neath programming, including collaborative art projects that encourage creativity and self-expression.

  • Liaise with community members and community organizations.

  • Document events/projects/programs, collect feedback from participants, and participate in program evaluation.

  • Design posters and develop communication initiatives through a variety of methods including social media.

  • Contribute to overall facility organization.

  • Contribute to writing of project grant applications, and reports.
