Summer Art Programming and Outreach Intern 

(Art Coordinator- Education)

Application Deadline: May 15, 2025

Terms: June 24, 2025 - August 24, 2025 (9 weeks) $24/hour, 30 hours per week, located in Kjipuktuk/Halifax, NS. Generally, hours will be Tuesday through Saturday and may include evenings.

Wonder'neath Art Society is a visual arts organization and studio facility that encourages and promotes art as a tool for expression, connection and social transformation through community programming and partnerships. The Summer Art Programming Intern will support the delivery of art programming and outreach to engage a variety of participants. The Summer Art Programming Intern should have art making and art facilitation experience, and a strong interest in the role of community-engaged arts.

Under the supervision of the Artistic and Executive Director, duties will include collaborating in: 

  • Project planning and scheduling for summer art initiatives and outreach events, including support for the Open Studio program, the Sketchbook Project,  and the Summer Open House

  • Researching and developing project ideas, including creating samples and directions 

  • Animating and facilitating art activities

  • Liaising with community members and community organizations 

  • Developing posters and communicating initiatives through a variety of methods, including social media

  • Contributing to overall studio organization.

  • Documenting events/projects/programs, collecting feedback from participants, and participating in program evaluation.

Responsibilities include: 

  • Working as part of a team to create an environment that is welcoming to a broad range of participants

  • Becoming familiar with the Wonder’neath community and its ongoing programming

  • Learning and implementing safe studio practices

  • Monitoring the success of projects and identifying improvements

  • Fostering opportunities for sharing, exchange of ideas/resources and expertise within our studio setting


Eligibility Requirements:


This position is supported through the Canada Summer Jobs program. An individual may be eligible for the position if they:

  • are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible);

  • are legally entitled to work in Canada;

  • are between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
