Summer Job Call 2026: Art Bikers Community Art Facilitator (Visual Arts Artist)

May 26th - Aug 29th, 2026 (approx 35 hours/week @ $24.00/hr)

This position is for a mobile community art facilitator through Wonder’neath Art Society. The successful candidate will work as a member of the Art Biker team, delivering art programming to the public by bicycle and other sustainable transportation in outdoor spaces around greater Kjipuktuk/ Halifax. Wonder'neath Art Society is a visual arts organization and accessible studio facility that encourages and promotes art as a tool for expression, connection and social transformation through community programming and partnerships.

Are you curious about exploring creative art programming outdoors this summer? 

Entering its 20 th season, Art Bikers, seeks several dynamic artist facilitators for its Summer 2026 program. Art Bikers is a training program for artists interested in socially engaged arts and working directly with community members of all ages. Modelling sustainable transportation through bicycle and trailer travel to green spaces throughout Kjipuktuk (Halifax), Art Bikers works in collaboration with community programs, non-profits, and citizens to bring engaging art activities to neighbourhoods in Kjipuktuk (Halifax). This position requires riding a bicycle daily in an urban setting with an appropriate level of physical fitness and comfort on the road for safety. 

Art Biker Qualifications:

  • Highly creative, innovative and flexible with strong visual arts and craft skills

  • Has facilitation experience with children/youth/folks across cultures and enjoys engaging with people

  • Strong collaboration and problem-solving skills as part of a team

  • Confident and experienced urban cyclist in good physical condition

  • Available for the entire season

  • Able to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings, within a 5-day work week

  • Punctual and reliable

  • Comfortable working in multiple settings: outdoors in all weather conditions and a mixed-use studio 

Art Bikers are responsible: 

  • To participate as an active and collaborative team member and contribute to the healthy functioning of the team,

  • To maintain safe practices, with awareness of community protocols 

  • To become familiar with Wonder’neath, its policies, programming, and community partners

  • To use the studio facility respectfully and cooperatively, maintain its cleanliness, security and organization, and

  • To maintain and use the program's bike trailers, tools, and materials responsibly

  • To honour the time commitment of the job for the duration of the program 

 

The Art Bikers duties are:

  • To initiate and facilitate creative community art activities in public parks and other outdoor public locations within Halifax Regional Municipality

  • To design and animate collaborative art projects that encourage creativity and self-expression

  • To travel to neighbourhoods and transport art materials by bicycle and trailer, and other means of sustainable transportation

  • To share art knowledge and skills with participants by offering hands-on examples, skill-building directions, and working collaboratively

  • To reflect on and record activities in daily and weekly debriefs, and incorporate these reflections into how the work is carried out

The Ideal Art Biker Candidate:

  • Has an interest in community-engaged art practices

  • Has their own bicycle in excellent working order and has knowledge of bicycle repair/maintenance 

  • Bilingualism is an asset

Eligibility Requirements:

The Art Biker  positions are supported through the Canada Summer Jobs program and NS Student SKILLS:

* 2 positions are funded by Canada Summer Jobs and requires the applicant to be between 15 - 30 years of age at the start of employment; be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial legislation and regulations.

* 1 position is NS Summer Student Skills requires the applicant who is either: entering full-time post-secondary studies in the fall following the summer work term or continuing full-time post-secondary studies following the summer work term SKILL recognizes post-secondary programs designated by Employment and Social Development Canada. A list of these can be found at the following website. The student must be a permanent resident of the province or live in Nova Scotia for at least six months prior to the work term. International students who are residing in NS are eligible to apply.
